AN artist has been commissioned to craft a piece of artwork which will put a new shopping centre on the map.
Andy Scott, from Glasgow, has the task of designing a creation of "national importance" that will define the new Dalton Park outlet at Murton, near Sunderland.
Ben Rainford, managing director of owner London & Amsterdam, said: "If we can create an artwork which is not just of regional significance but of national significance it will put Murton and the region on the map."
Dalton Park, expected to open in March, will create 800 jobs and will boost the local economy.
It will follow tried and tested outlets which specialise in end-of-season fashion ranges sold at massive discounts.
Adidas has committed to being the flagship tenant on the £50m site.
