A delivery van driver was slightly hurt when he tried to stop a robber escaping with his vehicle by hanging on to the windscreen wipers.
The victim, who was pulled from his vehicle in Bathgate Close, Battle Hill, Wallsend, Tyneside, at 10.30am on Thursday, was thrown off the van after a few yards.
The man did not require hospital treatment. Police are still trying to trace a white Sherpa van, registration number X69JOG, with Business Express written on the side.
The robber was in his early 20s. Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 0191-214 6555 extension 63349.
