A DISABLED woman who travels from Richmond to Darlington to shop each week was rewarded for her efforts yesterday.

Susan Lowe received a bouquet of flowers for being the 20,000th user of Shopmobility, which provides wheelchairs for disabled shoppers without charge.

She collected the prize at an event in the Cornmill Shopping Centre, which was organised by Darlington Association on Disability to promote the European Year of Disabled People.

The charity is planning a series of events throughout 2003 to raise funds and awareness about disability.

Darlington Association on Disability chairman Gordon Pybus said: "Mrs Lowe was delighted with her bouquet, and if the rest of the year goes as well as today's event, I think it is going to be very successful.

"People seemed really interested in what we are planning and we are grateful to the Cornmill for letting us be there."
