BUDDING beauty therapist Zara Wylie has won an industry award for skin care.
The 18-year-old student at Darlington College of Technology has become the Dermalogica Retail Student of the Year.
The prize is awarded annually to the student who sells the most Dermalogica skin care products.
"Selling skills are a very important part of becoming a beauty therapist," said the college's hair and beauty therapy senior tutor Brenda Pearson.
"It requires judgement during the treatments, choosing the right products and getting customers to heed their advice."
Zara, whose goal is to run her own business in Newcastle, has recently completed her NVQ Level 2 in beauty therapy and is now embarking on a year-long Level 3 course.
"I was really surprised to win," she said. "Everyone in the year was graduating at the time and I thought the letter was about that, then someone pointed out that mine said I was retail student of the year."
