YOUNGSTERS have come up with a lasting tribute to a pupil who died when she was knocked down in a road accident.
Children at Walkergate Primary School, Newcastle, have named their new library after Nicole Wong, who died six years ago, aged seven. Her sister, Sinead, aged six, is now a pupil there.
Today, Philip Turner, Newcastle City Council's director of education and libraries, will officially open the building and dedicate it to her memory.
Headteacher Don Smith said: "Nicole was a very bright and bubbly girl.
"We have done a lot to keep Nicole's memory alive in the school - we have created a memorial garden with a bench and a specially planted tree and every year on Nicole's birthday we present our Brightest Star Award.
"This goes to a pupil who has shown the same enthusiasm and qualities that Nicole had."
