A VILLAGE shop which has been in business for 108 years is to close.
For the past 33 years the shop and post office at Ampleforth, near Helmsley, has been run by John and Elizabeth Severs but now they are retiring to move to Boroughbridge to be near their family.
"We had hoped to sell the business as a going concern, but much to our regret it will close and the property become a private house," said Mrs Severs.
Despite the blow, Ampleforth, famed as the home of the leading Catholic college, does have another store.
