Redcar Town

Redcar Town were pleased to welcome Fishburn Boys for their quarter final league cup match on Sunday after Fishburn sportingly agreed to move the fixture from home advantage due to the weather affecting the pitch at Fishburn.

Both sets of parents home and away were treated to a great game where Redcar just edged past after Fishburn delivered a typical onslaught inspired by the ever awesome Tom Fothergill.

Some shuddering tackles were part of an early winter warmer and both sides got stuck in and Fishburn took the lead deservingly.

Redcar responded with some sweeping football and went into half-time 4-3 up.

The game was end to end in the second half and the difference was delivered by Callum Revely who scored the fifth goal to complete his hat-trick after a mesmerising run by the fleet-footed Jonathan Grounds.

Rumour has it that Redcar are going to test Fishburn's resolve with a million pound move for Tom Fothergill in the summer before Bobby Robson moves in!

Final score was Redcar 5, Fishburn 3.

Riverside

Chester-le-Street

The only Riverside team to play at the weekend were the Under-13s who entertained Redby Blues in the second round of the Ray Foster cup. In the second half Ross Flynn ran through to make it 3-3 and scored again to put Riverside ahead Shortly before the end Aaron Sherrif scored to make the final score Riverside 5 Redby Blues 3.

Richmond Town

Again the weather affected the fixture list with only three games surviving the conditions, writes Ben Prosser.

Richmond Town Under-11s maintained their unbeaten run in 2003 by winning at home to Brompton. A strong cross-wind made it hard for both teams to settle into a pattern of play but Richmond took the lead midway through the first half when J.Woodall scored and shortly afterwards G Love made it 2-0.

Richmond were applying the pressure but Brompton's man of match was the keeper who had an outstanding game, pulling off a number of good saves. In the second half Richmond maintained the pressure but were only able to add one more goal to their tally with J Woodall adding his second of the game. Richmond kept their first clean sheet of the season with man of match Z Jackson having a solid game at sweeper.

Richmond Under-13s had an outstanding win against Teeside Athletic in the Teeside League Cup, they won at home 12-0.

Brompton Juniors

Brompton Under-14s from Division Four played Newton Aycliffe from Division Three in the TJAFC Challenge Cup in windy conditions. Brompton, playing with the wind in their favour in the first half, came up against a resolute Aycliffe defence and despite producing a few chances they failed to take any of them, until a determined run and cross by man of the match, John Henry, found Stefan Pearson who shot home.

The wind subsided after half time and Brompton took advantage with Adam Lister hitting a superb volley from the edge of the box after two minutes. Pearson scored two in as minutes to claim another hat-trick, the second was supplied by Scott Goodrum's excellent reverse pass. Danny Thornborough slid in for Brompton's fifth. Aycliffe responded with a well-placed free kick which keeper Andy Wilson had no chance. Scott Goodrum capped a good performance with a well-taken goal. Final score was Brompton 6 Newton Aycliffe 1. This was an excellent team performance against a higher league opposition.

Darlington Spraire Lads

In Division Four of the TJFA, the Under-14s pulled off a giant killing act in the Challenge Cup by beating Darlington 21st Allstars of Division One. The match was a typical cup-tie with plenty of endeavor from both sides but there was still room for good sporting behaviour from all of the players. The first half remained goalless with both sides having chances, the best falling to Spraire's Rob Knox but his volley just cleared the bar following a great cross from 'Tubs' Chandler.

Playing against the wind in the second half, Spraire had to work very hard to keep their shape against some heavy pressure from Allstars. The deadlock was broken when Chandler used his lightning pace on the counter-attack to score a great goal. A four-man move, again on the counter-attack, was superbly finished by Chandler to make it 2-0 to Spraire and provide much-needed breathing space. Man of the match went to James Krishnan for his cool performance at the heart of the Spraire defence.

Darlington 21st Allstars

The Under-14s were away to Spraire lads in the Challenge Cup. The conditions were difficult and the Allstars playing against the wind in the first half managed to contain the Spraire Lads. The pitch suffered in the second half and in extremely difficult conditions, the Allstars conceded a goal.
