A group of entertainers have decided to swap their Full Monty routine to dress up as the Cheeky Girls to raise money for primary school children.

Tribute To The Stars, composed of seven men, who live in and around Coundon and Shildon, are appearing at Coundon Workingmen's Club tonight, dressed as controversial double act The Cheeky Girls. The event is being held to raise money for St Joseph's School, Coundon.

It has been organised by the Friends of the School and will also include bingo and a raffle. Doors open at 7pm in time for the start of the show at 7.30pm. People can pay at the door, or order tickets, which cost £2.50 each, from the school by telephoning (01388) 602608.

HISTORY MEETING: Joan Smith was re-elected chairman of the Sedgefield Local History Society at its annual meeting in Ceddesfeld Hall. Other officials are vice-chair Helen Clifford-Brown, secretary Mary Thorpe and treasurer Colin Richmond. Former vice-chairman Sheila Sutherland, who retired from the committee, was presented with a framed picture of the village ball game. A book was presented to Bernard Howarth, who also stood down.

SPRING SONG: Crook and Weardale Choral Singers open a series of spring concerts on Tuesday, March 11, with a performance of Steiner's Crucifixion, at Stanley Crook Chapel, at 7.30pm. On Wednesday, March 12, the choir will be at Cockton Hill Methodist Church, Bishop Auckland, at 7.30pm.

RESIDENTS' MEET: The next meeting of New Shildon Residents Association is on Thursday, at 6.30pm, in the Salvation Army Centre, Cross Street, Shildon. Representatives of Sedgefield Borough Council will talk about Timothy Hackworth Museum.
