THE body of a man killed in a car crash in Spain has been brought home to England.

Philip Johnson, 32, was killed in a head-on collision between two cars near Barcelona, on January 21.

The driver of the other car, a 45-year-old local woman, was also killed.

At the opening of an inquest on Mr Johnson at Darlington police station, his father, also called Philip, gave evidence of identification.

Mr Johnson, of Briar Walk, Darlington, said his son, who was divorced, had been living alone in Barcelona at the time of his death.

South Durham and Darlington Coroner Colin Penna said a post-mortem examination carried out on Mr Johnson's body showed he had died from multiple injuries.

He heard that the logistics distribution director, who was born in Darlington, had been living abroad for a number of years.

Mr Johnson's parents flew to Spain shortly after his death to arrange the return of his body to Darlington.
