PEOPLE in the North-East would rather be photographed with astronaut Neil Armstrong than with David Beckham, according to a new survey.

The poll, by Siemens mobile phones, interviewed 1,000 people across Britain to find out which celebrity people would most like to be pictured with.

Armstrong, the first man on the moon, topped the poll in the region.

Beckham, who came first across the UK as a whole, was second, ahead of movie star Clint Eastwood.

The Queen was third, while Tony Blair came equal fourth with Sean Connery, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone.

Simon Robinson, of Siemens, said: "It is rather strange that they picked Neil Armstrong above all others, but perhaps this demonstrates that they have a much more global view of things.
