THE organisers of a fair for family and local history enthusiasts are hoping for a big turnout.

The sixth Yesterday Belongs to You event will be held at County Hall, Durham, on Saturday, April 5.

And the council is expecting a bigger attendance than the event in 2001, which attracted more than 3,500 people and 80 organisations, ranging from small local history societies to major museums.

County archivist Jennifer Gill said: "Yesterday Belongs to You, which first started ten years ago, has proved immensely popular with visitors and exhibitors and we are hoping to keep up the high standards.

"It is an opportunity for a wide range of museums, libraries, record offices, local and family history societies and many other groups to come together to help celebrate all aspects of the county's rich heritage.

"There is always something for everyone - from the serious researcher to those who just want to find out a little more about the history of their family, house or village.

"It is a gold mine of information with enthusiastic, friendly people who have a wealth of experience to guide you in the right direction or pass on tips of the trade.''

Yesterday Belongs to You will take place from 10.30am to 4pm. Refreshments will be available and there will be free parking.
