DURHAM Wildlife Trust has new displays in the visitor centre at its Rainton Meadows reserve, near Houghton-le-Spring.

They were created with more than £20,000 given by the Onyx Environmental Trust and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

SECURITY DISPLAY: Durham Police will be manning a display on home security and crime prevention in Durham Clayport Library, Millennium Place, Claypath, on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm. Talks on Neighbourhood Watch and other security matters will be held at 2pm and 3pm.

BUILDINGS TALK: The next meeting of the Durham branch of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society will be at Fyndoune Community College, Sacriston, on Monday, at 7.15pm, when Graeme Potts will give a talk on architecture in Durham.

ON COURSE: Gilesgate Community Association is running a course in desktop publishing on Mondays, from 7pm to 8.30pm, in Gilesgate Community Centre, Vane Tempest Hall, Gilesgate, Durham. The six-week course costs £15. To take part, call 0191-386 1933.

ADVICE SESSIONS: Durham Citizens Advice Bureau is holding outreach sessions today, at Bowburn Community Centre, from 10am to noon, and at Esh Winning Community Centre from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. No appointment is necessary.

GARDEN PLAN: Derwentside District Council is being asked to grant permission for a greenhouse, potting shed and poly-tunnel in the allotments at Whinside, Good Street, Tanfield Lea, near Stanley.

COUNTRY NIGHTS: Andy Brown will perform at the Seven Winds Country and Western Club, Sherburn Hill Community Centre, next Tuesday night. Admission is £2 for adults and £1 for accompanied children.

CHURCH SALE: A second-hand book and record sale will be held at Chester-le-Street Methodist Church on Saturday, February 22, from 9am to noon. All proceeds will go towards church funds.
