A GROUP of youngsters on Teesside have launched an £80,000 appeal to re-roof and extend their base.
The First Nunthorpe Scout Group meets in a prefab which was used as a canteen during the Second World War, but it urgently needs repairs.
Maureen Gendle, who helps with the 80-strong group, said: "I wish I had £50 for every bucket I have put under the leaking roof when it rains."
Faced with having to put a new roof on the base, in Church Lane, Nunthorpe, organisers decided to raise money to rebuild the centre.
Mrs Gendle said: "It is a case of knocking down the main hall, where the boys do their games and putting a larger hall under that new roof.
"The roof does leak badly. We have had it patched and mended, but it is an ongoing problem."
