MEMBERS of Guisborough's Christian Aid Group will hand over a list of 70 demands calling for an overhaul of international trade rules to work in favour of the world's poor.

They will be presented to Ashok Kumar, Labour MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, who will be asked to give them to the Prime Minister.

AUTHOR VISITS: An author will be inspiring young writers at an event in Hartlepool today. Gervase Phinn will hold a day-long writing class for year nine pupils from the town's secondary schools at the Staincliffe Hotel, Seaton Carew. Mr Phinn is a freelance lecturer, broadcaster and writer. He has written a number of books, including Head Over Heels in the Dales.

NEW DOCTORS: Two specialist doctors have started work at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton. Elderly-care physicians Dr Ijaz and Dr Steven Yeoman will be assessing, diagnosing and treating patients on the hospital's six elderly care wards and medical rehabilitation unit, as well as establishing a community geriatric service.

CHURCH SALE: A bric-a-brac sale will be held at St Cuthbert's Parish Church, Marton, Middlesbrough, on Saturday, February 22, in the Parish Centre, Stokesley Road, Marton, from 10am to 1pm. Proceeds will go to the church.

SHOPPING FUN: A magic show, balloon modelling and visits from a superhero mouse and a clown are among activities at the Hill Street Centre, Middlesbrough, during the school half-term holidays next week.

HEALTH COVER: Concerns over the lack of a doctors' surgery at Hemlington has prompted a public meeting, in the Initiative Centre, on Tuesday, February 25, at 6.30pm.
