THE creation of a school council has helped put youngsters on the map to clinch a Healthy Schools Award.
Children at St Cuthbert's School, Crook, are celebrating after they were presented with the Healthy Schools Award by Durham and Darlington Health Authority.
Headteacher Barbara Simpson said the school already met much of the criteria needed to gain the award and everyone had worked hard to build on that.
She said: "We have started to encourage the children to eat fresh fruit at playtimes and have set up a school council. We had always intended to start a school council but putting in for the award encouraged us to press ahead with it. I am very pleased and very proud to have been presented with the award."
