A TEENAGER died and two others were seriously injured when two cars were involved in a crash on Monday.

Paul Christopher Hughes, 17, of Gladstone Street, Eston, Middlesbrough, was pronounced dead at the scene after the Ford Fiesta he was travelling in collided head-on with a Vauxhall Frontera, on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road, at the Lealholme junction, in North Yorkshire.

The driver of the car, Anthony Lodge, 17, of High Street, Eston, and passenger Kayleigh Cobbold, 16, of South Street, Eston, were both taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital.

Anthony was last night out of intensive care and Kayleigh's condition was described as poorly but stable.

The driver of the Frontera, a 45-year-old Scarborough woman, was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Police appealed for witnesses to call on (01723) 509555.
