RECENT work of artist Gillie Cawthorne is going down a storm at her former college.

The former Durham University student is exhibiting her latest watercolours at Trevelyan College, where she is "an old girl".

Although she graduated in geology, Gillie has turned to her love of art since leaving the university.

Her masterstroke was compiling a series of paintings and prints of all the then Durham colleges, plus scenes of the cathedral and castle, in 1990/91.

Marketed through the various college alumni relations officers, her paintings have gone on to follow ex-Durham students round the world as a reminder of their days at the university.

Now a mother-of-two, living in Durham, many of Gillie's landscapes are scenes around the city and the rest of the North-East.

Her work also features seascapes and industrial scenes in styles ranging from traditional to impressionistic.

She selected 28 for display at Trevelyan, organised with the backing of the college arts committee, and with more than three weeks to go 13 have already been sold.

The exhibition is open daily at the college, in Elvet Hill Road, off South Road, Durham, until March 7, from 10am until 6pm.
