YOUNGSTERS have boosted their primary school's coffers and helped two national charities with some imaginative fundraising events.

Children at Rosa Street Primary School, in Spennymoor, held a Great Tiddly-Wink Challenge to raise £1,600 for school funds.

All 264 pupils were sponsored by friends and family to flip tiddly-winks across ten widths of the school hall in five minutes.

Parents who watched the school's Christmas play also donated their spare change to the annual festive collection, which raised £76 for National Children's Homes.

But it was the school's efforts for Children In Need that turned most heads, by raising £210 with a bad hair day.

Headteacher Colin Craggs said: "The children love to raise money for charities that help other youngsters.

"And the generosity of parents is immense. Their support to boost school funds is very much appreciated, some of the money was used for Christmas parties and the rest will be well used in the future.

"I was amazed with how much money we collected."
