A WORKER died when he fell off scaffolding at a steelworks.
The 44-year-old contract worker was working on the Basic Oxygen Steel (Bos) plant in Lackenby, Dormanstown, near Redcar, Teesside, when the tragedy occurred at 1.45pm on Monday.
Police investigating the death say the unnamed man, from Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, died after he appeared to fall from scaffolding.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said yesterday: "We started the investigation on Monday and returned yesterday with a construction specialist investigator. It appears he fell from scaffolding which was erected to help people carry out repairs to a ladle."
The Bos site is part of Redcar's Corus complex. A spokeswoman for the steel firm said: "On Monday a Plettac NSG employee was fatally injured while working at the Lackenby site. An inquiry into the cause of the accident is proceeding."
