Waltz city: Waltzes from Vienna will be presented by the Lanchester and District Choral and Amateur Operatic Society, at 7.15pm, from Wednesday to Saturday, February 19 to 22, in the Lanchester EP Primary School. Tickets are £5 with £4 concessions and £2.50 for children.

Slide show: A slide and talk on picture postcards will be given by George Nairn to the Lanchester and District Flower Club at 2pm on Wednesday, February 26, in Lanchester Cricket Club.

Play area saved: Donations from the Sir James Knott and Willan Trusts have taken the play area appeal at Delves Lane village hall to £8,500 which will keep the play area open until at least July.

Charity grants: The National Lottery Awards for All programme has awarded £4,705 to Crookhall Community Centre for cavity wall insulation and double glazing. The centre also received £400 from Shell Employee Action to buy a printer and computer chairs.
