Loftus police are clamping down on firearms offences after two teenagers were caught shooting at birds in Skinningrove Woods.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, had their rifles confiscated and will appear before court to face charges. Police will visit schools and youth clubs in the area to warn about the dangers of misusing air rifles and pellet guns and the consequences of their actions.

HOSPICE HELP: Thorntons is holding a chocolate evening in aid of the Butterwick Hospice at Ian Ramsey School, Stockton, on Thursday, February 20, at 7pm. The event costs £3, which includes a talk from a Thorntons member of staff on the history of the company. Free samples of chocolates and refreshments are included in the price of the ticket. Chocolate gifts will also be available to buy on the night.

PROJECT LAUNCHED: A £280,000 project to give people across Hartlepool access to the Internet will be launched today by players from Hartlepool United.

The Hartlepool People's Network will enable people in the town to log on to the Internet free, using 63 computers installed in the town's public libraries.
