A NORTH-East primary school teacher has left for a remote Kenyan village to gain more insight into its culture.
Jim McManners, headteacher of Cassop Primary School near Durham, first visited the village in West Pokof two years ago.
The trip was made possible because the school won a national competition run by the Worldwide Fund for Nature for its environmental programme.
The information he gathered on that trip proved invaluable in teaching children about life in a different culture.
The two schools have kept in touch, but that has proved difficult because the village has no electricity or postal service.
Now Mr McManners is making a return visit in an effort to teach the Kenyan children about life in Cassop village.
He said: "I have put together a pack which consists of photographs of houses in Cassop, our children, my family and the like."
He is also taking a tape recorder so the Kenyan children can record their stories.
