Darlington Borough Council has granted an application for discretionary rates relief from Firthmoor Association for Community Enterprise.

It has been given 20 per cent relief for its premises. Councillors have also awarded grants to Darlington Coronary Support Group, the Village Retail Services Association and swimmer Denise Baker, who competes for the Cleveland Area Transplant Team. Darlington's Archer Badminton Club will benefit from a £200 grant from the community leisure chest.

VALENTINE'S JAZZ: There will be a Valentine Jazz evening at Barnard Castle School, at 7.30pm, today. The event will feature entertainment by the Barnard Castle School Jazz Band and the Mick Donnelley Quartet. Tickets cost £8 including supper. All proceeds will go the NSPCC.
