Durham County: Durham played Northumberland, newcomers to Region One Inter Counties Pool Championship, at Sacriston Daisy Hill and produced three outstanding results.

The men's A team won 31-13 with Adrian Daniels (Washington) winning all his four frames, whilst Ian Staines (Chester le St), Chris Bowron (Durham), Alan Brunton (Washington), Michael Rhodes (Tudhoe), Andrew Tennant (Shildon), Trevor Walton (Washington) and Steve Thompson (Sunderland) all made three points from their four games.

The other points scorers for the A team were David Jones and Paul Armstrong 2 each; David Harrop and David Bridge 1 each.

The men's B team had more of a struggle but still edged through to victory with a 23 - 21.scorleine. Andrew Morley of Langley Park proved the star with wins in all four of his games, whilst Andy Seal (Durham), Paul Dudding (Chester le St) and Shaun Williams (Horden) added three points each.

The other points scorers for the B team were Lee Holdsworth, Dave Ferguson, Steve Baker and David Hodgson 2 each; Gary Spooner 1.

The most impressive result of the day was by far the 30-14 victory for the Ladies, who were so determined to improve on their first outing, where they lost to South Yorkshire. Allison Harrop (Consett) and Helen Sharp (Durham) led the all-star performance with four wins from four, with Helen managing the feat for the first time. They were more than ably supported by captain Clare Tritton (Chester le St), Helen Littlewood (Langley Moor), Dawn Small (Chester le St), Vicky Fleming (Chester le St), and Sue Seal (Sherburn Hill) who all kept their cool and took three of their four frames.

The other scorers for the Ladies were Lindsay Hood, Kay Brannen and Natasha Mitchinson 2 each; Lyndsey Short 1

At the end of the match the message from Clare Tritton to all the players in the three teams was, "This has been a brilliant day. Now we know we are capable of producing the best, so lets keep this going!"

Durham and District League

Bowburn Hare and Greyhound had a hard fought home match against Consett Stateside and were unlucky to go down by the odd point to the Championship chasers. K Rainbow, D Harrop, R Hogarth all won two games with A.

Kavanagh adding one each for the Stateside. The home side replied with two points from R Miller, and one each from C Barron, P. Moralee, D Hann and G Maughan.

Bishop Auckland Area League

Bishop Auckland Grand A visited Bishop Auckland Bay Horse in what turned out to be a close contest. John Rickaby opened the scoring for the Grand before Michael Wright and Garry Lamb put the home side ahead. Ryan Holdsworth and Shaun Reynolds moved the score to 3-2 in favour of the visitors. Michael Wright, Lee Harker, Wilson Harrison and Chris Ball pushed the home lead to 6-3 before Shaun Reynolds claimed his second point. However, the Grand levelled with Michael Kean and Ryan Holdsworth taking the first doubles and Lee Ellison and Shaun Reynolds the second. The deciding captains match was won by the Grand's Rob Dalton to give them a 7-6 victory.

In a rather one-sided match Spennymoor Hillingdon played hosts to Bishop Auckland Mano, who were right on song. Ron Wright, Peter Mernor, Jon Tomlinson, John Collinson and Steven Webb all won both of their singles matches to give them a 10 nil lead going into the doubles. Peter Mernor and Jon Tomlinson won the first game that before James Spawert and Tracey Geldart took a consolation point for the home side in the second. Steven Webb won the captains to give the Manor a 12-1 win.
