Torrential overnight rain pushed the Tees up 5ft before the 'all in' for Sunday's 70 pegger North York South Durham Federation Thompson Memorial.

Staged at Over Dinsdale competitors stuck it out and winner Durham's John Hay managed to stay in front of the opposition putting a hard-earned four chub onto the scales.

Fishing off peg 61 opposite Middleton one Row beck end a patient approach on the feeder and bread down the edge paid off.

Then for Darlington rods Dave Cain and Martin Chapman it was three chub apiece and an agonising one ounce apart.

Dave just below the Tollbridge leapfrogged ahead of Martin returning 4.5.0 as both also found the feeder and bread approach most consistent in the conditions.

Meanwhile on the Lower reaches of Tees it was a depleted entry of 23 for the Yarm AA Adams Cup with the Newman Scott and Cleveland Angling Centre squads away practising for the forthcoming Northern Semi Final of the Winter League.

Scott Douglas cruised to victory off a difficult river. Pulling out peg 144 on the Shorde, feeder utilising maggot and worm hookbaits accounted for 9 chublets totalling 7.2.0 from runner up Kevin Jones of Yarm Flynns 4.13.0.

Rising levels continued to be a feature on the River Swale yet Darlington's John Eyles put an outstanding all chublet net of 18.14.0 onto the scales during the Idle and Thackley AA Open at Swainby.

On the end peg above Kirby Grove Island feeder and wasp grub tamed five heavyweight Swale specimens.

Only other rod to crack double figures Brotherton's Adrian Evans sat below the Iron Bridge and landed three chub for 11.3.0.

The end peg also produced the goods but this time on the River Wharfe around Smaws Ings.

In the Tadcaster APA Open local ace Anglers World's Chris Burton used his wealth of experience putting together a super all dace bag worth 12.15.0 at the scales.

Catching inside he skilfully edged the stickfloat and maggot through his swim.

Knaresborough's Dave Hare followed taking a mixed net of 7.3.0 off peg 25.

Bomb and maggot approach enticed a quality bream along with a couple of perch and a roach.

A good bag of 13.8.0 elevated Bradford's Nigel Jessop into top spot for the Bradford No 1 AA Charity Open on Nidd.

Drawing peg 66, a form peg on the dog kennel's straight, Nigel legered cheese close in and four quality chub resulted.

Weights then dropped and Steve Beckwith of Armley above the dip on peg 23 legered lobworm netting two chub and a perch for next best of 7.5.0.

Carp round-up

Partially frozen lakes midweek and cold water temperatures on Saturday competitors turned out in force for Sunday's match on the Woodland Lakes complex and Mallard came out on top producing 1st and 2nd places from the 75 entry.

First into the frame Fryston Tackle rod John Stanley stuck to bomb and sweetcorn throughout and was rewarded for his efforts.

Sat on peg 19 John tempted carp up to 6.0.0 to quickly dispose of the rest recording 33.1.0.

Then Andy May of Sensas Dave's snatched 2nd place when he slipped the net under a bonus carp of 9.0.0. On Mallard 1 pole and corn attack at 11 metres delivered 17.12.0.

Others: D Taylor (Diawa Goldthorpe) 16.14.0; K Fenwick (Elton Tackle) 16.2.0.

Woodland Lakes (Sat), All match lakes except Partridge (57 rods): 1 N Hargreaves (Elton Tackle) 22.0.0. Small carp off Swallow 15 to long pole & corn and maggot feeder; 2 J Allerton (Tri Cast Whizzo) 16.6.0; 3 P Henry (Fisherman's Tackle) 12.10.0.

Woodland Lakes (Wed), Dragonfly Mallard & Swallow (17 rods): 1 D Smith (Map Elton) 45.4.0; 2 A Gregory (Elton Tackle) 21.10.0; 3 C Dawson (York Tackle) 12.1.0.

At the Oaks Sessay a big mirror carp swung the verdict in Sunday's Open when Chris Hargreaves of Team Cornhead landed the 11 pounder.

Fishing off peg 41 on Maple Lake and using corn and maggot to keep in contact with the fish, carp made for a 24.1.0 return.

It was corn down the middle for teammate Andy Steele who had to work harder for his 19.4.0 bringing in all small carp off peg 32 from Tri Cast Whizzo's John Allerton 18.12.0.
