After a long break New Dales recommenced their season entertaining Roseberry on a bright blustery Sunday morning.

The match was always going to be difficult for the hosts, especially with last minute changes being caused by an unforeseen circumstances which left them with only ten players. In the event, Roseberry themselves were forced to compete with a player short, one of their team volunteering to cover for an absent umpire.

The game began with a great deal of pressure from the experienced Roseberry side put themselves in attacking situations from the outset. Clare Harland, strong as ever, distributed the ball particularly well from her midfield position, encouraging her teammates with her positive outlook. New Dales absorbed these forays, with sweeper Lynn Holmes proving to be consistently effective against a determined forward line.

The game began to change when New Dales' seasoned striker, Nell Dinsdale, recognised the need for some structure to her side, slipping into a more forward position where she began to receive through balls from the midfield. From this point the team counter-attacked. This eventually paid off when Sandra Kinchen scored at close range, lifting the ball past the keeper following a deflection from Nell. A second goal came quickly, a nicely worked manouevre, the ball passed from the right by Hannah Phillips to Dinsdale who crossed it onto the waiting stick of Sandra Kinchen, at the left post once again. The score remained at New Dales 2, Roseberry 0 at half time.

Roseberry were not deterred, and came out, as expected, with a positive approach. Trish Alderson, as those involved in this league demonstrated once again how difficult she is to mark with her speed and ball skills. It was only the hard work of Helen and Lynn Holmes at the backs coupled with a little bit of good fortunes which kept her and her foraging mates at bay. Gill Brine, keeper for New Dales, had to prove her worth as she confidently intercepted a number of attacks, mending her line well and communicating her intentions effectively with her defence. New Dales had to show some composure to stand up against a succession of long and penalty corner's and it was only their discipline which limited the opportunities of Roseberry players such as Trish and the resolute Steph Davies.

New Dales won a number of penalty corners, and it was following one of these that Nell Dinsdale was able to flick the ball past Clare Ascough in goal to make the score Dales 3, Roseberry 0. Despite the exciting end-to-end play which continued to the end of the match, this remained the scoreline.
