A team of sixth form volleyball players have won through to the British Colleges National Finals at Loughborough University in March.

The boys team from Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College entered the British Colleges Northern Region competition and decisively beat all their opponents.

The Northern competition was held at Temple Park, South Shields and, in hard fought games, the QE boys won their matches against college teams from Middlesbrough 25-22, South Tyneside 25-15, North Tyneside 25-16, Prior Pursglove, Guisborough 25-16.

John Beilby, Head of Sport at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, said: "This is an excellent result and I am delighted for all staff and students involved.

"The team has played together for a number of years at Haughton Volleyball Club, which must take a lot of credit for this win. Hopefully they can go on and emulate the College's girl's team who won this competition a few years ago."
