THE Tweed Valley Motor Club ran their annual Tom Swinney trophy trial at Doddington Quarry, near Wooler, in Northumberland last Sunday.

After some light rain before the start, the sun shone as the 62-strong entry tackled four laps of ten sections with the emphasis on rocks.

The combination of Colin Ward and his Sherco took the trophy by a single mark from young ace Michael Lee, also on a Sherco, on the expert course, while third place went to novice Kirk Vitty (Beta), who finished just five marks behind.

It was close on the modified course, which saw John Palmer (Montesa) take the win from Tim Longstaff (Sherco) by just two marks, with Gordon Imrie (Sherco) a further one mark down.

In the pre-65 category, Steve Maxwell led a trio of BSAs to take the class win by a wide margin from Bill Emmerson and Scot Willie Gordon.
