Worthington Durham County CIU Winter League

The top of both Second and Third Divisions were changed.

Wingate moved to the top of the Second Division despite losing on their visit to Wheatley Hill B, whilst Sacriston took over the top spot in the Third Division after the former leaders, Coundon only took one point from their visit to Tow Law.

Wheatley Hill B went two up with wins from David Carter and Jock Frost but Wingate drew level with wins from John Bourne and Jimmy Mason. However the Hill went to victory when Steve Cave beat Steve Allen. Despite the defeat Wingate moved to the top of the table as they made up their match in hand on Bearpark and went one point ahead.

Coundon travelled to Tow Law having lost only one match this season and that was at home to the Lawyers. The home side played confidently and went through to win allowing Coundon only one point in the process - a point scored by Mally Ryder. The Lawyers points came from Heppell Hodgson, Charlie Donaghy, Tommy Williams and Doug Watson.

Coundon's defeat allowed Sacriston to move to the top of the Third Division after they only dropped the first point at home to Fishburn B, who had Alan Wilson as their only winner. Sacriston's points came from Mark Appleby, Jeff Evans, Kevin Laing and Steve Bradley, who had a 31 break.

In the First Division, Spennymoor A extended their lead at the top of the First Division after they only dropped one point on their visit to Meadowfield, who had Norman Smith as their only winner. The Moors had wins from Karl Welsh, Paul Atkinson with a 31 break, Eddie Rhodes with a 38 break and Paul Biddle with a 46 break.

Wheatley Hill A slipped a further point adrift of Spennymoor A when they were taken to the decider before winning at Shotton Palms. Barry Hall put Shotton ahead but then Dave Walker and Jack Wright won for the Hill. Paul Hickman squared the match but Dennis Clish took the Hill to victory by beating Dave Swindle in the decider.

Old Shildon moved up to share second place with Wheatley Hill A after they only dropped one point on their visit to Sherburn Village. The visitors had wins from Jossie Aldworth with a 30 break, Michael Pratt, Billy Goggins and Steve Bennett, whilst Scott Mallaburn took Sherburn's lone point.

Cockton Hill could still get among the First Division trophies after winning by the odd point at Witton Gilbert to move three points behind the joint seconds in the First Division. George Chapman, Andrew Aisbitt with a 40 break and Lee Taylor won for the Hill, whilst Willis Joynes and John Rooney junior replied.

Newton Aycliffe virtually ended their fears of relegation from the top division after they only dropped one point to the visiting Willington, who had Gordon Parkin as their winner when he took the first frame. The home side had wins from Ronnie Hall, Stewart Neil, Ritchie Young and Michael Hewitt.

Brandon took the first and last frames on their visit to Fishburn A when Kevin Sample and Brian Graham won. The home side's victory came through wins from Brian Quest, John Carter and Wayne Oliver.

Crowtrees A slipped seven points behind Bearpark in the Second Division after they lost in the decider at home to Belmont. Sean Johnston put the home side ahead but Michael Short levelled. Sonny Hann put in a 30 break to restore the home lead but then Colin Robinson beat Keith McLauchlan on a re-spotted black to equalise. In the decider, Belmont's Chris Morley beat Colin Barron.

Stanley Central slipped to the foot of the Second Division after they went down in the decider at Langley Park, who were never headed. Lenny Thompson put the Park ahead with Walter Cornell levelling. Kevin Keers restored the home lead but Harry Grimes equalised. In the decider the Park's Ray Coates beat Jim Dufton.

Hunwick A were pushed down to share the bottom spot in the Second Division with Stanley Central when they lost by the odd point at Spennymoor B. Micky Anderson, Wayne Parry and Alan Rowell won for the Moors with Des Mason and Ian Richardson replying.

Newhouse got back to winning ways after two defeats when they came through in the decider against the visiting Ferryhill. Harry Dinsdale and John Maddox put the home side ahead but Ian Fawcett and Adrian Jones levelled. In the decider Newhouse's Ian Dinsdale beat Neil Spender.

Durham City still occupy third place in Division Three but they slipped six points behind Coundon when they went down to a great recovery from the visiting Crowtrees B. Gary Ward and Michael Pratt put the home side ahead but then Martin Wolf and Dave Taylor levelled the match. Crowtrees completed their recovery when John Hall beat Barry Stoddart.

Crook Belle Vue took the first three points in their home match against Leeholme A when Gordon Sample, Ken Rider and John Warriner won, The visitors made the score respectable when Barry Shaw and Lawrence Jones took the last two points.

New Durham won by the odd point on their visit to Hunwick B thanks to wins from Gordon Bowes, Kevin Scullion and Brian Birks. The home side had points from Trevor Lomax and David Penman.
