A MILITARY band will be in action this weekend at a charity concert that could become an annual event.

The Royal Signals Northern Band will perform a two-hour show at the Hambleton Forum, in Northallerton, starting at 7.30pm on Saturday, in support of town Mayor Jack Dobson's charity fund.

Sponsorship by Peugeot dealer Simon Bailes is expected to ensure even more cash for Councillor Dobson's chosen causes, Northallerton and District Hospice Homecare and Northallerton Silver Band.

The event will feature a mixed programme, ranging from popular music to arrangements from shows.

Entry will be free, but there will be a collection as well as raffles and other fundraising activities throughout the night.

A similar event was held last year, and members of the audience asked if the concert could be made an annual event, which organisers from the Northallerton Silver Band have decided to try to do.

Chairman David Prest said: "We organised last year's concert because we felt that there was a need for something a bit different in Northallerton, and it was a huge success, with people asking for it to become annual."

Coun Dobson said: "The kindness shown by Simon Bailes means that people can enjoy a night of wonderful music and raise more money for charity."
