Businessman Simon Wrightson, of Manfield, near Darlington, has given over £26,000 to the brain injury charity, Headway.

He raised the money, which is the largest ever single donation to the charity, by taking part in the Great North Run.

BRAVE VOLUNTEERS: Members of the Army and Prince's Trust volunteers will undergo waxing in Darlington's Market Square on Sunday to raise funds for a nostalgic trip. The public can pay £1.50 a time to pull strips off about 15 brave fundraisers. The Prince's Trust wants to raise funds to take a group of North-East Second World War veterans on a trip to D-Day sites in Normandy.

DIGGER STOLEN: A turquoise mini-excavator on caterpillar tracks, valued at £16,000 and with the serial number 1H1355, was stolen from Langton Business Park, on the Newton Aycliffe Industrial Estate, between noon on Monday and 1.50pm on Tuesday.

CAR STOLEN: A blue Vauxhall Cavalier, registration H979 SEP, was stolen from Meadow Road, Trimdon Village, between 10.30pm on Monday and 7am on Tuesday.
