AN EXPERT on the subject of protecting children from paedophiles who "groom" youngsters over the Internet is to give a free public lecture.

Alisdair Gillespie is a member of the Government's task force investigating child abuse on the Internet and a senior lecturer at the University of Teesside's centre for applied socio-legal studies.

His lecture is Prostitution and Sexual Exploitation: Changes by the Sexual Offences Bill 2003.

"I will be discussing the proposals contained in the new law relating to prostitution and sexual exploitation," said Mr Gillespie.

"The new Bill is a welcome and much needed overhaul of the archaic laws relating to sexual offences in England and Wales. It is the culmination of several years of work and consultation."

Topics to be discussed on the night include child prostitution, the sexual exploitation of adults and children, the encouragement of children to be involved in pornography, the place of pornography in sexual exploitation and the trafficking of humans.

The seminar will be in room A1.061 of the university's School of Social Sciences, in the Clarendon Building, off Southfield Road, Middlesbrough, on March 12, at 6pm.
