A SMALL North-East firm has created a stained-glass window for a private chapel.

Michael Ramsay, 28, and his father, Harry, 55, set up their company, Ramsay Studio Glass, in Consett six years ago with the help of the Prince's Trust.

They were approached by Jean Bohan, who lives in the grounds of St Mary's Convent, Ebchester, to create a memorial to her sister, Bernadette, who died in October after spending five years at the convent.

The private chapel at the convent now features a large stained glass window thanks to the generosity of a neighbour and Michael and Harry's skills.

Michael said: "The window is a blend of traditional and modern styles and techniques, and is the first we have completed from scratch. My father began designing the window last November and from then on the project has been a series of challenges.

"The finished article, however, gives us both a sense of job satisfaction and, happily, seems to have met with the warm approval of everyone who visits the chapel."

The father-and-son partnership is becoming increasingly well-known for the quality and innovative features of the work carried out at the workshop at Berry Edge Industrial Estate.

They have several high profile companies and organisations on their client list.

They recently designed and manufactured glass trophies for finalists in the North-East Business Awards of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group and the Prince's Trust.
