Bishop Auckland are now six points above the UniBond League relegation zone after a 2-1 home win over Chorley on Saturday.

Manager Brian Honour was delighted with the performance, which puts them well clear of Trafford and Eastwood Town.

"I thought the players responded well after our defeat in midweek.

"We've got games coming up now against clubs in the middle of the table, and hopefully we can pick up some more points."

Bishops got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after just four minutes when Neil Maddison picked up a long ball from Shaun Hope and beat the Chorley keeper.

Chorley equalised with a header by Andy Mason.

But Bishops replied with another goal by Maddison which turned out to be the winner, when he scored at the near post from a cross by Chris Hughes.

Spennymoor boosted their play-off hopes with a 3-0 home win over Belper.

Manager Jamie Pollock was delighted with the second win inside a week, and said: "We were very positive, and the lads defended superbly.

"They had to work hard, and played some good football at times."

Moors took the lead after just two minutes, when Belper defender Steve Kennedy put into his own net.

David Goodchild made it two and Jason Ainsley made sure midway through the second half with a powerful shot. Belper had a man sent off near the end.

In the Premier Division, Whitby went down 2-1 at Droylsden, even though Lee Ure levelled for them at the start of the second half. Gateshead drew 1-1 at Hucknall thanks to a goal from Neil Shotton, while Blyth lost 3-2 at leaders Accrington Stanley.
