FOOTBALLING hero Niall Quinn helped doctors celebrate an extension to their practice.
The former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland player opened St Andrew's Medical Practice, in Spennymoor, on Friday.
The surgery provided a buffet meal to mark a double celebration after news that it had been given a Quality Practice Award.
The extension at medical centre doubles the floor areaand will house a primary care unit.
It also makes room for other specialities such as physiotherapy, chiropody, midwifery, diabetes, counselling, psychology and the Benefits Agency.
Staff were given the news that they had also been rewarded with the Quality Practice Award on Friday, February 20, after undergoing a full day of interviews and assessments.
The five doctors working at the practice, Andrew Sanderson, Alan Sensier, Tony Long, Naomi Ibbott and Sanjay Patel said they were proud that it is now one of only 50 practices through- out the country to receive the award.
