STOCKTON'S Mayor yesterday launched a holiday activity programme to give children the chance to try something different during school holidays.
About 90 youngsters met Councillor Jean O'Donnell at the youth centre in Thornaby and had a go at activities such as rock climbing, arts and crafts, athletics and table-top games.
The Xplore scheme has been designed by the sports development team at Stockton Borough Council and is aimed at children aged between three and 16.
The council's sports development officer, Emma Warnes, said: "Xplore is designed to give young people the chance to take part in holiday activities with a difference.
"The programme offers a wide range of action-packed educational, developmental and sport activities during the holidays.
"Xplore will also give young people the opportunity to develop their sporting skills at varying levels, linking local coaches and clubs across the borough."
A programme of events over Easter is available from leisure centres, libraries and schools.
