A Hoggarth and Sons Eskvale and Cleveland League: Annandale Hotel v Anchor Inn

Aentertained Anchor with the strong wind and poor playing surface making passing difficult for both sides. With the wind behind them Anchor went straight into attack forcing Annandale to defend deeply but the hosts broke away, Barker and Johnson linking up well to supply Booth who finished calmly to give Annandale the lead. Annandale were spurred to continue the attack with Booth a constant threat and Johnson forcing a fine save from Stinson in the visitors goal. However Anchor managed to level when Scott evaded the home defence. The second half began evenly but with conditions deteriorating chances were few and far between. Scott went close for Anchor and Berry and Johnson tested Stinson. With ten minutes to go Annandale pressed forward, a Fairbank through ball found Garbutt in the clear but the young striker blazed the ball over the bar. Few chances were created in the rest of the match and the game remained all-square.

Boosbeck Utd v Gt Ayton

An evenly contested game throughout with both defences allowing the opposing forwards very few chances. The first half was played between the two penalty areas, Jonathan Grainge giving a polished defensive performance for Gt Ayton and Mickey Morgan doing likewise for Boosbeck. Neither keeper had a shot to save in the first 45 minutes. Early in the second half Ayton introduced Davis Grainge from the subs bench and, with his ability to whip in the crosses, gave Ayton the edge, putting more pressure on the home defence. An Ayton free kick taken by David Grainge found his brother unmarked on the penalty spot but his shot on goal was well blocked by Myers for Boosbeck. An attack from the left wing created an opportunity for Kevin Lane, once again Myers saved well. An Ayton corner, taken by Lane, found David Grainge unchallenged but he saw his powerful header flash over the cross bar. On the final whistle the no score draw was a fair result.

Grosmont v Whitby Fisherman's

In an even first half Whitby opened the scoring when Stan Woods shot from outside the box over the keepers head. Ten minutes later Grosmont equalised through Ross, who was having an excellent game at the front. In the second half Grosmont were forced to make two substitutions and Whitby seemed to take control with Wood scoring his second. Grosmont then had a goal disallowed and five minutes later Easby sliced an unstoppable shot into his own net to give Whitby a 3-1 advantage. The score then went to 4-1, this time Will Woods finding the goal and in the dying seconds substitute Dyson tapped the ball in to give Whitby a deserved 5-1 victory.

Highland Laddie v Lingdale Tavern

Highland Laddie began the game the much more lively of the teams, Combellack and Lowther causing the Tavern defence all kinds of problems with their pace. Brian Combellack broke the deadlock after 17 minutes with a neat finish following good work by Steven combellack down the right. Despite Darcy working hard for Tavern he couldn't break down the Laddie attack. Steven Combellack was once again the instigator for Brian to tap the ball in from six yards. Tavern were struggling to get the ball into the opposition penalty area and a break for Laddie saw Lowther neatly sending Nesbitt clear only for him to be brought down by the Tavern keeper, who was duly sent off. Brian Combellack, on a hat-trick, stepped up to take the penalty but a good save from stand-in keeper Fowl, kept the score down. In the second half, despite being down to ten men, Lingdale rallied and began putting pressure on the Laddie defence, this resulted in Tavern pulling a goal back when a Breckon free kick curled in at the far post. Laddie broke several times, Morgan seeing a good chance go wide. Breckon then set up Wright who missed the chance of an equaliser when he too shot wide. Final score 2-1.

Lealholm v Staithes

Lealholm began well and scored after ten minutes when the defensive passing of Staithes was intercepted by Hutchinson, who ran on to place the ball into the corner of the net. Staithes had a spell of good corners but Lealholm weathered the storm until the 35th minute when Libby equalised from close range.Within five minutes Staithes were ahead when Shane Gibson scored while Lealholm were appealing for offside. A good cross from the right, two miinutes from the break, found Beddingfield for him to give Staithes a comfortable advantage. The second half was uneventful for the first 20 minutes then Lealholm began to play better but couldn't capitalise and against the run of play. Lee Gibson took Staithes futher ahead with a volley from the edge of the box. With ten minutes remaining staithes made sure of the points when a corner was headed home by Theaker.

Lingdale Utd v Redcar Mackinlay Park

Lingdale began the game with the advantage of the strong wind but it was Redcar who went ahead after 20 minutes, Cattermole bringing down a Redcar player and Ayres successfully converting the resulting penalty, though Gibson in goal got a hand to the ball. Lingdale then put on a lot of pressure with a series of corners but Redcar defended well with two-goalline clearances and some good saves by keeper, Henwood. With the wind advantage in the second half it proved to be only a matter of time before the visitors added to the score. McGloin scored the second with a header after a mix up in the Lingdale defence. Sherwood then took a free kick which he hit low and with the Lingdale keeper unsighted the ball crept into the net. Lingdale made a series of substitutions but to no avail. A 75th minute header from Smith and a second goal from Ayres five minutes later gave Redcar Mackinlay Park a convincing win.

Loftus Ath v Grangetown

After a good start to the season Grangetown seem to be out of form and Loftus dominated the first half. A goal from Deveraux followed by an own goal after a corner gave Loftus a two-goal advantage within ten minutes and by the 20th minute Loftus found themselves four ahead with first Whitaker and then second from Deveraux. This gave them a comfortable cushion at the break. Early in the second half Carter got his name on the scoresheet for Loftus before Grangetown came back into the game. Two late consolation goals from Scott and Millington prevented Grangetown suffering a whitewash but on the day Loftus deserved their 5-2 victory.

Whitby BenevolentCup

Brotton WMC v Hinderwell

Brotton controlled the game for the full 90 minutes, although to Hinderwell's credit they never stopped trying. Scott started the opened the scoring after five minutes. Although Scott went on to complete his hat-trick in the first half he became very frustrated as Robinson in the Hinderwell goal made several excellent saves. Two goals from Waters completed the scoring in the first half to give Brotton a 5-0 lead. With Brotton continuing in the same vane in the second half Hinderwell became increasingly frustrated. Substitutes Peggs and Solomon got their names on the score sheet with one for Peggs and two for Solomon, one of which was a well taken lob from the edge of the box. Brotton cxompleting an easy passage to the semi finals.
