A GUESTHOUSE landlord accused of the murders of two young Korean students may have suffocated his first victim in a kinky sex game, a court heard.

Kyu Soo Kim, 32, allegedly bound, stripped and killed 21-year-old student Hyo Jung Jin without any apparent struggle, jurors heard.

Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw said in his closing speech Miss Jin could have consented to being tied up - but no one will ever know because Kim has elected not to give evidence.

Mr Laidlaw told jurors at the Old Bailey: "The two people who could have given you the most reliable accounts were the two victims.

"We don't have a clue what the defendant's case is. What does he say happened to Miss Jin?

"Does he accept that he killed her and what is his defence to murder?

"There may have been consensual sex between he and Miss Jin - an element of bondage that went too far. Is he saying this is a terrible accident?"

Kim is said to have stuffed Miss Jin's body into a suitcase and dumped it outside York, leaving the other - In Hae Song - to rot in a cupboard, a jury has heard.

Mr Laidlaw said the reason Miss Jin's corpse was not marked may have been because she allowed herself to be tied up.

He said it has been proved that she was living at Kim's flat in Eagle Street, Holborn, central London, when she died.

Miss Jin, a student in France, was murdered just days after arriving at Kim's guesthouse in Eagle Street, in October 2001, it is alleged.

Kim, who last lived at Eagle Street, fled to Canada, paying for the flight with his second victim's cash.

He was arrested when he returned to Britain on January 7 last year. He denies two charges of murder.

The trial continues.
