Karl Wilson, 28, who is accused of rape, false imprisonment, indecent assault and causing grievous bodily harm, appeared in court yesterday.
No pleas were taken during the short hearing at Newcastle Crown Court and Mr Wilson, of West Park Road, South Shields, was remanded in custody.
He will next appear before the court on May 27.
