TWO of the region's most popular heritage attractions will feature in a TV programme on the nation's favourite ancient monuments.
Hadrian's Wall, in Northumberland, and Castle Howard, a stately home in North Yorkshire, will battle it out with 22 other sites and properties on the Britain's Finest show, on Channel Five.
The series will see presenter Tim Marlow count down a top ten most popular ancient monuments, while co-host Hugh Scully will list the UK's best-loved stately homes.
Sites shortlisted in the finest castle category also include Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland, which featured in the first two Harry Potter movies.
But the region has no entrants in the top 12 for the best gardens in the UK.
Channel Five viewers and Radio Times readers can vote for their top ten in all four categories, to be shown in two programmes this summer.
Peter Bromley, regional director of English Heritage, which looks after part of the wall, said: "I think Hadrian's Wall will be a very popular choice with viewers of the Britain's Finest programme."
