Willington Black Horse Inn gave themselves a good chance of landing the League Championship when they closed the gap on the leading Willington Black horse Tavern with a home win over the Victoria Club. This leaves the Tavern with a single point lead going into the final games of the season.
The Black Horse Inn had singles wins from Tony Claughan, Steve Cason, Sammy Jackson and Ivor Williamson with Colin Pratt taking the lone singles point for the Victoria. Steve Cason and Tony Claughan extended the home lead by taking the first doubles but the Victoria denied their hosts a share of the top spot when Norman Bolam and Ronnie Greensmith won the final doubles.
The final match could bring the title to the Black Horse Inn but if things went wrong they could lose out on the runners-up spot as they play Willington Lion and Unicorn, who are six points behind in the final match.

Crook League
Chris Raine won the League Singles title when the beat Doug Bowey in the final played at Crook Spitfire Club. In the semi-finals Raine beat Ian Armstrong whilst Bowey beat Gerald Parkin.
The Doubles Championship as won by Peter Genner and Doug Smailes after they beat Neil Campbell and Doug Bowey in the final. In the semi-finals Genner amd Smailes beat Ian Bibby and Peter Clement, whilst Campbell and Bowey beat Colin Howe and Anita Howe.
Willington and District League
Hunwick Club face a play-off for the runners-up spot when they failed to score the two points they needed to secure the trophy place on their visit to Hunwick Quarry. Even the chance of a play-off looked unlikely when the Quarry took the first four points through Dave Robson, Andy Dobson, Jim Fullerton and Dave Edmundson. However their trophy chances were saved when Geoff Moore took the final point for the Club, who now share second place with Willington Brewer's Droop B.
