Darlington are just two wins away from Third Division safety according to young defender Ryan Valentine.

Saturday's win at Scunthorpe takes Quakers six points clear of the relegation zone with seven games remaining.

Without getting too carried away, Valentine is confident Quakers will enda disappointing season on a positive note by preserving their League status, which last week seemed under serious threat following defeat at fellow strugglers Boston.

"I think another two wins will keep us safe but after Saturday we'll be looking to win a few more," said Valentine.

"The Scunthorpe game will have given us all a lot more confidence and we'll be looking to go on and win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season.

"We knew the Scunthorpe game was going to be hard and I think most of us probably would have taken a point before the game, so obviously it was nice to come away with all three.

"We battled well and Clark Keltie nicked it for us in the end with a brilliant goal."

Valentine, who joined the club on a free transfer last summer after being released by Everton, admitted the Boston game had done little for the spirits of the team.

Prior to Saturday's 1-0 win at Glanford Park, they had recorded just one victory in their 12 League outings.

"After Wednesday night all the lads were down," said Valentine.

"We haven't had a good season with results so it would be nice to finish on a high."

Barry Conlon will miss the visit of Bury on Saturday as he begins a two-match ban following his sending off against Cambridge a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile Glenn Naylor made his comeback from injury last night but was unable to prevent Darlington Reserves losing 2-0 to Hull City at Feethams.

Dave McGurk had a good game in defence while keeper, Chris Porter, pulled off two outstanding saves to keep the score down.
