Northallerton Swimming Club continued their winning ways with an awesome display of strength in depth to dominate the Moors League gala held at Guisbrough.

Managing a points tally of 11.50, the team put in an inspirational performance throughout all the age groups and in doing so created seven personal best times with four club records set in the process, enabling NASC to first place in over 50 per cent of the events.

Adele Carmichael swam outstandingly well with two club bests in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly. Not to he outdone, Adam Lister broke his own 50m freestyle record by half a second to move him closer to the 30 second barrier.

Zara Dee Hannay continued her assault on the girls 11 year records with her seventh of the year to date in the 50m breaststroke. Other swimmers lowering their best times were Sam Brayshaw 50m backstroke, Ralph Stokeld 50m breaststroke and Jayne Truman 50m freestyle. Victories also went to Stephen Lane, Ben Wilbor and Emily Shaw who dominated the breaststroke event.

Once again Northallerton, reigned supreme in the relay events with every team from the nine-year-olds to the dedicated older swimmers showing strength and tremendous team spirit without which success could not he achieved.

Northallerton swimming clubs upward trend with the result of three years of dedication and hard work by all connected with the climb. The swimmers pulling out all stops in the water, parents giving rapturous support on the poolside and a pro-active committee who give 100 per cent support to the coach and club.

Northallerton also had success in the recent Northumberland and Durham Counties age group championships 2003 with six swimmers finishing in the top ten a high standard far such a small club. Congratulations to Ben Wilbor, Stephen Lane, Nicola and Katie Thompson, Zara-Dee hannay and Emily Shaw. With Laura Hugill, Ralph Stokeld, Emily Brayshaw and Ewan Lister achieving personal best times with James Todd returning to form in his age group, well done to all competing in such a high standard of competition.

Billingham SC

Five swimmers qualified to compete in the Northumberland and Durham Counties Swimming Championships held at the City Pool, Newcastle. All youth swimmers performed excellently against the best in the region.

Nineteen-year-old Nathaniel Williams gained silver position in the 19 and over 800m free.

Two boys competing in the 15/16 age group were 16-year-old Peter Riddle swimming the 50m back and free, 100m free, back and fly and 200m free and back. Fifteen-year-old Matthew Sheehan competed in the 50 back and free.

Two girls qualifying in the 15/16 age group were 15-year-old Jane Usher in the 50m free, 100m IM, free and back, 200m free, IM and back, 400m IM and free and just missing out in fourth place in her 800 free. Fifteen-year-old Emma Wilson competed in the 50 back and free, 100m free and back, 200m IM and 400m free.
