CANCER charity fundraisers say they are very much in business despite the closure of a neighbouring group.
Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK has recruited six committee members to help with a busy events programme in the next few months.
The charity's neighbouring Barnard Castle branch has closed after 21 years because the few remaining members have decided they cannot carry on.
Brenda Thwaites, Teesdale's treasurer, said the Barnard Castle announcement had confused supporters.
She said: "We need people to know that we are still going strong and there is plenty of support for cancer research in Teesdale."
The next fundraising event will be a coffee morning on Saturday, April 19, from 10am to noon, at Cotherstone Methodist Schoolrooms.
