A SCHOOL has received a glowing report following a recent inspection.

Browney Primary School, in Meadowfield, was visited by Ofsted inspectors last year.

Their report, published recently, describes it as a 'good school with some particular strengths'.

The report found that staff formed a 'strong team' and were 'highly committed' to the education of pupils. It singled out the leadership of headteacher Sarah Taylor as particularly outstanding.

The report stated: "Good and often better teaching and inspired leadership by the headteacher create an exciting learning environment, where pupils achieve well, particularly in their personal development, at whatever stage they join the school."

The inspectors recognised the school's achievements in gaining an Artsmark Silver Award and a Basic Skills Quality Mark, and found that though its running costs are relatively high, it provides good value for money.

They praised staff for heeding the recommendations made in the last inspection, in 1997, and found that teaching in Key Stage Two, handwriting, spelling, attendance and the school environment had improved.

The report said that parents and governors were happy with the school, and describe its displays as 'stunning'.

It suggested improvements be made in pupils' understanding of what they read and achievements in science.

Mrs Taylor said: "I am delighted this report recognised the achievements and hard work of the staff and pupils."
