Darlington skipper Craig Liddle admits Saturday's win at Scunthorpe has eased relegation worries - but has warned they are not safe yet.

Even in 16th place and six points clear of the relegation zone Liddle believes Quakers still have some work to do before they finally secure their League status.

"All the teams at the bottom seem to be picking up points so it's still really close," said Liddle.

"It's took some pressure off us, but we're by no means safe.

"Another two wins should see us safe and we need to get them as soon as possible."

Quakers entertain Bury at the weekend and will no doubt go into the game full of confidence after coming away from Glanford Park with all three points.

"It was a massive result for us against Scunthorpe because all the other teams at the bottom seemed to pick something up as well at the weekend," said Liddle.

"I don't think anybody outside the club expected us to get anything on Saturday.

"Before the game I think we would have been happy with a point so to come away with all three was even better."

No other team in the Third Division has won fewer games at home this season and Liddle feels this is one of the reasons why Quakers have struggled to make any kind of progress.

"Our home form has been awful this season and I think that has a lot to do with where we are in the table," said Liddle.

"We need to put that right and hopefully we can start with the game against Bury on Saturday.

"The last few weeks have been very difficult especially for our younger lads. They've been under massive pressure, but I think they've came through it well."

Quakers will be without the suspended Barry Conlon for the visit of Bury, although Liddle has no worries about his replacement.

Young striker Danny Mellanby has already proven himself as a more than capable stand-in after scoring four in his last four outings, while Blackburn forward Jim Corbett has impressed since joining the club on loan.

"I'm sure Baz will be a massive loss, but we have players who can come in and do a job for us," said Liddle.

"We know that Danny is capable of scoring goals and Jim has done very well since he joined us."

Defender Stuart Whitehead is continuing to make slow progress from a troublesome ankle injury.

The former Carlisle man has not appeared since limping off against Wrexham last month and remains a major doubt for the weekend.

Meanwhile, loanee Darren Hockenhull from Blackburn Rovers has left Quakers to join Rochdale on loan.
