PUPILS at a Darlington school took part in a series of healthy living workshops.

Hurworth Comprehensive School held its third annual social, moral, spiritual and cultural day for Year 8 students.

The event took the form of workshops to stretch the mind, body and soul and was titled Looking After Me.

Each student took part in two of the seven workshops on offer. They were run by professionals hired for the day by the school.

A chef from the Fighting Cocks pub in Middleton St. George helped out in the healthy cooking workshop.

First aid techniques were the subject of another workshop and police representatives were present at a drug awareness session. Cycling instructors took a road safety workshop.

The children who opted for the keep fit workshop were given a thorough workout. More relaxing sessions were provided by the yoga and Indian head massage workshops.

Teacher Rita Rees said: "It went brilliantly. The kids were really interested in what was going on."

Next year's event will include a multicultural day with the opportunity to take part in belly dancing, produce Aboriginal art and sample Indian foods.
