THE £11m restoration of Harrogate's Royal Hall has been given a royal seal of approval by the Prince of Wales.

He has agreed to become patron of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust for a five- year period in a bid to see the crumbling theatre restored to its full splendour.

With a major cash boost expected shortly from the Government's funding agency Yorkshire Forward and the pledge of almost £7m from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, the future for the famous theatre, which is 100 years old in June, is now looking secured.

Lilian Mina, chairwoman of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust, said: "The Prince's commitment to the historical, architectural and cultural heritage of the nation is well known. His patronage will be of enormous benefit to the trust in its fundraising efforts to help restore the Royal Hall to its original splendour."
