A MAN who threatened a pub landlord with a 12in knife was jailed for six months yesterday.

Judge Peter Bowers said at Teesside Crown Court that Nikitas Maikos, 22, was a danger to the public - and believed the garage worker would only realise the consequences of his behaviour the moment he arrived in jail.

John Constable, defending, said that Maikos was drunk on tequila and was angry about being ordered out of the the Speedwell Pub, in Darlington.

He went home and collected the Japanese ornamental knife from his wall and returned to the pub.

Mr Constable said Maikos stood in the doorway of the pub, brandishing the knife, but had no intention of stabbing anybody.

It took four policemen to overpower him later in nearby Victoria Road, Darlington, said Michael O'Neill, prosecuting.

Maikos, of Park Lane, Darlington, pleaded guilty to causing an affray on February 1, possession of an offensive weapon, in public, and to resisting a police officer.
