GRANT Tuer maintained his dominance of the Hurworth Hunt race with his seventh win in eight years as the Hurworth point to point took place in front of a capacity crowd at Hutton Rudby last Saturday.

Tessa Gray on her mother's Miorbhail made virtually all the running, but the favourite, Tuer's Golden Chimes, took it up at the last and ran on to score by two lengths. Miorbhail was second, 12 lengths in front of For Cathal (A Clare).

Tuer looked set to complete a double when the favourite Trooper Collins (Hurworth) approached the last in the second division of the maiden. The Simon Robinson-owned, trained and ridden Orleans (Zetland) led three from home, but Trooper Collins showed in front after the second last with the Michael Brown-trained Bohemian Spirit (P Armitage/York & Ainsty) going well in behind.

Bohemian Spirit blundered badly at the last and Trooper Collins was also far from perfect. Galvanised by Robinson, Orleans rallied again and got up to win by a length. Three lengths back in third was the five-year-old Bohemian Spirit, ridden by Ben Woodhouse.

The Karen Tutty-trained Little Worsall followed up his Dalton Park open win by taking the equivalent race here. Ridden by Nigel Tutty, the ten-year-old took it up by the fourth last and the result was never in doubt as he galloped on for a ten-length win. The Sarah Dent-trained Brighter Shade (D Kinsella/Bilsdale) ran his best race of the season to finish second under Phillip Kinsella. There was as a sad postscript to the race as the game 14-year-old veteran Temple Garth (Sinnington), trained by owner Freya Hartley, later died after finishing third.

The first division of the restricted was by far the stronger division and was won in impressive style by the Niall Saville-trained and ridden Star of Raven (Holcombe). Two lengths back in second was the Serena Brotherton-trained and ridden Emperor's Son (Middleton), while the Simon Robinson-owned and ridden Ben From Ketton (Zetland) finished a length down in third.

Howard Thomson's Sally Scally (Cleveland), beaten by a head at Dalton Park, gained compensation with a comfortable win in the ladies open in the hands of her trainer Tina Jackson. The favourite, the Jill Dawson-trained and ridden Bloomfield Storm (A Lyons/Brocklesby), finished second, two lengths in front of Serena Brotherton on her own Legendary Line (Middleton).

Shankly (Sinnington), who finished in front in a maiden at the Derwent but lost the race when his jockey failed to weigh in, won the third division of the maiden. Deputising for the injured Mark Walford, Gino Carenza visited the clerk of the scales to ensure a deserved success for the eight-year-old.

Shankly had enough stamina to hold Maria Myco's Romany Move (South Durham) by two lengths.

Kings Boy (Lord Daresbury/Middleton), trained by David Easterby, dominated the confined hunts race, scoring by a distance under Tom Greenall.

Ronnie Barr's homebred Penny Peppermint (Cleveland) took the second division of the restricted. Ridden by Clive Mulhall, the mare finished eight lengths in front of Nampara Cove (R Russ/Cleveland).

The first maiden was won by Maria Myco's Liam's River (South Durham). The 11-year-old, ridden by Trevor Glass, won by five lengths from the Jill Jones homebred Bobby Button (Cleveland).
